Mardi’s work is vibrant. It is loaded with colour, fun photos, layers and stitching. And she always has a story to tell. While Mardi considers herself a relative newcomer to this craft, she has been filling exercise books with snippets, clippings and photos for years so really, she has scrapbooked for a long time..she just didn’t realise it. Mardi’s work has appeared in many of the Australian magazines including Scrapbooking Memories, Scrapbook Creations and For Keeps and she was awarded an honourable mention in the Scrapbooking Memories Masters 2006.
How did you discover scrapbooking?
I was first introduced to scrapbooking when my daughter Briony was given a kit for Christmas and we went along to the local store to buy some extra products. It was LOVE at first sight. I booked into my first class and my obsession was born.
What do your family think about your scrapbooking?
Depending on their moods, my kids can be quite the posers and love to play up to the camera but I am finding increasingly when the camera appears their eyes roll and they emit a huge ‘not again’ sigh! I’m tending to take more candid shots when they aren’t aware I am there with the camera.
What’s your favourite colour combination?
Ohhh, tough question. I tend to choose mainly white and black backgrounds and then I add in a strong mix of colours. Lately I am using a lot of red, green and kraft.
And three products you tend to always reach for when creating?
At the moment I seem to choose text papers/tags, alphabet stickers and stitching (machine or hand stitching)…oooh and quirky embellishments.
Would you describe yourself as a slow or fast scrapper?
Mmmm, well I am slow to start. I take a long time to get motivated. I procrastinate way too much and sometimes I can waste hours shuffling things around and planning. But once I make a start and know where I am heading I can produce layout after layout quite quickly.
Are you interested in other crafts?
I love and have dabbled in almost every craft there is! I loved paper tole, cross stitch, dress making and painting before I discovered scrapping. And I think that’s why scrapbooking is also so addictive - I get to incorporate lots of other crafts I love along the way.
Tell us a little about your family life?
I’m married to my sweetie Ian and we have three typical teenagers. Brent is 17, Mitchell is 16 and our daughter Briony is 13. We live in the Riverland region of South Australia.
How do you feel about being on the @home support team?
I feel honoured and excited (I’m still pinching myself) and I am looking forward to working with Kim and the other gorgeous Support Team girls…I know we are in for a real treat!
