Yvette’s layouts always tell a story. She teams great photos with lots of colour, texture and heartfelt, honest journaling. Yvette started scrapbooking back in 2000 after watching her sister discover scrapbooking but it wasn’t until 2001 when she walked into her first scrapbooking store and saw all the available product that she was hooked! She has been widely published in many Australian publications including Creating Keepsakes (Australia), Scrapbooking Memories, For Keeps, Scrapbook Creations, My Reflections and the New Zealand magazine Up2Scrap. Plus she has been published in the US magazine Memory Makers as well as their 2007 idea book.
How long have you been scrapping?
I started in 2001 with my own baby album.
What do your family think about your scrapbooking?
My five year old daughter is usually happy to pose for photos and loves all the layouts I create about her. My husband is really proud of the story of our life I am documenting although he doesn’t usually like me to create layouts about him! Two of my three sisters are scrapbookers and we’re all a great support and source of inspiration for each other. My parents love it when their friends see me in print. And my parents and sisters are always happy to have their photo taken - we had a lot of practise growing up with a camera in our faces (thanks dad!)
What’s your favourite colour combination?
I love pink and green, pink and orange, pink and brown, Hmmm. I guess I just love pink! However I find myself using lots of different colour schemes and I am greatly influenced by the photo or the mood I am trying to convey.
And three products you tend to always reach for when creating?
I love to use several patterned papers, chipboard and ribbon. I love to use up old supplies from my stash too. I love that sweet feeling of using up the last thing in a packet.
Would you describe yourself as a slow or fast scrapper?
I would normally take about two hours to complete a layout so I guess that’s about average. I never start a new layout before completing the last and I do usually finish a layout in the one sitting. Since I don’t have a dedicated scrap area (I use the dining table) I always pack my gear away after each session.
Are you interested in other crafts?
I occasionally sew clothes and I’m currently cross stitching a detailed Christmas stocking. I used to do a lot more of both before I started scrapbooking. I have painted a few canvases for my home and my sisters’ homes. And like most scrapbookers, I make cards.
Tell us a little about your family life?
I am a stay at home mum to 5 year old Tasmyn. She has just started pre school so next year when she is at school full time, I will return to work. And I imagine it’s going to cramp my scrapbooking style substantially. I am married to Dave and I am close to my parents and three younger sisters.
How do you feel about being on the @home support team?
Wow. I was absolutely thrilled to be invited to join the team. I’m really enthusiastic about the new classes and can’t wait for the fun to begin.
